The carvings were found Monday by a teacher assigned to the classroom, who immediately reported the incident to school officials.
It was not known when the carvings were done.
"This display has no place within our four walls and community," Principal Anthony Grosso said in an email to parents. "This will not be tolerated."
The incident is being investigated by township police and Montclair's district officials.
